SMI RED500 Overview

Contact-free system with high-speed capabilities

The SMI RED500 remote eye tracking device combines high-speed capabilities at 500 Hz with eye tracking which is completely contact-free for the participant. Saccade measurements and shortest latencies with fully remote setup are possible, even with less compliant subject groups. In behavioral studies, subjects do not have to be positioned in a chinrest, nor do they need to wear any markers.

  • High sampling rate for precise measurements of saccades, blinks and fixations
  • Low latency for faster reaction, e.g. in gaze-contingent experiments
  • Easy interfacing with physiological data collection systems

Fields of use: Neuroscience and psychology studies which require low latency and high sampling rate.

SMI RED500 Features

World's first binocular 500 Hz remote eye tracker

The RED500 is the world's first high-performance and high-speed remote eye tracker, with 500 Hz sampling rate, binocular tracking and a large tracking range.

Low latency for fast reaction, e.g. in gaze-contingent experiments

The low latency of the eye tracker supports the realization of sophisticated experimental designs including gaze contingent functionalities.

Easy interfacing with physiological data acquisition systems

Software messages and up to eight TTL inputs allow to reliably synchronize SMI eye tracking data with physiological data sources, such as EEG, either directly, or via a dedicated synchronization hardware such as StimTracker for SMI. Via tailored protocols, plug-ins and other options of SMI Eye Tracking Connected, the SMI RED500 can easily be combined with leading partner solutions in fields ranging from multimodal cognition research to virtual reality.

Compatible with stimulus presentation software

The RED500 is compatible with SMI Experiment Suite Scientific and with E-Prime stimulus presentation software.

Data output includes but is not limited to:

  • Pupil size, gaze position and gaze vectors
  • Software messages and TTL trigger
  • Eye event data (fixations, saccades, blinks)
