E-Prime 2.0.8.73
E-Prime 2.0 Standard and E-Prime 2.0 Professional (build 2.0.8.73) are available for download via web support links (http://www.pstnet.com/e-prime/support/download.asp)
This build will require a green hardware key or red network hardware key (The BETA login is no longer available -
KB3986 - INFO: E-Prime 2.0 BETA closed)

UPDATE NOTICE
If you are using E-Prime Extensions for Tobii, you must upgrade your EET system to 2.0.1.9 or later to use E-Prime 2.0.8.73 or later.

If you are using E-Prime Extensions for NetStation, you must upgrade your EENS system to 2.0.1.10 or later to use E-Prime 2.0.8.73 or later.  Please contact support@egi.com for more information.

What is in this build?
For a full listing, please see KB4019 - INFO: E-Prime 2.0 Change History

CodecConfig, Audio and Video Renderer
In an effort to help diagnose media file incompatibility and also to reduce the amount of PreRelease required to load media file types, E-Prime 2.0.8.73 introduces a new audio renderer, the ability to choose from two video renderers, and an application called CodecConfig to help "map" codecs to your system and provide reports about which codecs were chosen.

Please see KB3162 - FEATURE: CodecConfig provides ability to choose codecs used for Movie and Sound rendering for information about CodecConfig and ability to view a detailed video background of the CodecConfig application.

Templates
E-Prime 2.0 Professional offers the ability for industrial partners and end users to offer experiment templates when creating a new paradigm.  The templates can be categorized into different categories to easily filter them.  Once you choose a template, E-Studio will prompt to save as the template file to a .es2 file.

KB2651 - FEATURE: E-Studio offers choosing template experiment files when creating new experiments

StartupInfo Editor
The StartupInfo editor permits E-Prime 2.0 Professional authors to design experiments that can load variables into the context from external .startupInfo files.  In addition, E-Prime is capable of reading specially designed Context variables to alter the behavior of the experiment w/o having to alter the .es2 file.  Two common examples of using a .startupInfo file are a) ability to change the COM port of the SRBOX in a lab that has 9 machines on COM 1 and one machine on COM 2 w/o having to edit the .es2 file and b) ability to auto increment the Subject number each time an experiment runs.

For more information see KB3831 - FEATURE: StartupInfo Editor and the "New Features Guide" included with the installation of E-Prime 2.0.

64-Bit Port Driver
PST is pleased to introduce a digitally signed Port Driver capable of being installed on Windows XP and Windows Vista 32-bit and 64-bit systems.  The installation of the Port Driver will occur during installation of E-Prime and will not require the "continue anyway" style prompts necessary by drivers with no digital signature.  PST has verified that the Port Driver will provide millisecond accuracy on XP/Vista 32/64-Bit environments.  Use of the Port Driver will have no script or design changes (i.e. WritePort, PortDevice, etc) remain the same.

Invalid Refresh Rate Detected
The Standard Display Adapter in Windows Vista can cause a 0.000 refresh rate and either cause E-Prime to crash or other timing related errors.

KB3848 - FEATURE: Detection of invalid Refresh Rate

E-DataAid Exporting Issues Corrected
Issues with exporting and running analysis related to UNICODE data files were corrected.

KB3940 - BUGFIX: E-DataAid 2.0 export from analyze option incorrectly results in a text file with all numbers and no data

KB3985 - BUG: Batch Analysis Save functionality not working as expected

KB3938 - BUG: List permits non-Western alpha characters which can cause problems with data file

KB3942 - BUGFIX: "The analysis has changed? Do you want to save this analysis?" message

Windows 7 Support

PST does not recommend using Windows 7 at this time for data collection.  In house testing has shown the ability to install, design, and spot test experiments under Windows 7.  PST intends on providing a more formal statement about Windows 7 and publish timing test results scheduled for Q1 2010.

For the most up to date information on Windows 7, please see KB4026 - INFO: Windows 7 support in E-Prime

Codecs

Mainly due to licensing restrictions and because all paradigms have different requriements, PST cannot directly distribute nor formally recommend a specific set of codecs for compatability, quality, or efficiency reasons.  However, many end users have reported that a combination of the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (http://www.codecguide.com/download_k-lite_codec_pack_mega.htm) and the DivX 7.0 (http://www.divx.com) or higher set of codecs have proven to find good results.  PST also recommend using CodecConfig to "map" the associations from file extension to video/audio decompression to provide the fastest load times and to ensure system reproducibility.

Installation

While the E-Prime 2.0 installation is intended and has been tested to upgrade from previous versions, in the event the installation does not successfully upgrade, then removal from the Add/Remove control panel applet will be required before applying the new version of E-Prime 2.0 on your system.  In the rare cases that E-Prime does not remove successfully, please download and install http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301 and force the remove from the Windows installer database.  After performing this action, clear out your C:\Program Files\PST\E-Prime 2.0\Program (or equiv) folder.

And Vista? Does 2.0.8.73 fix the problems with sound, movies, and response times as documented at http://support.pstnet.com/forum/Topic1361-12-1.aspx, http://support.pstnet.com/forum/Topic1850-4-1.aspx, and http://support.pstnet.com/forum/Topic2994-12-1.aspx?
